BLUF: one sentence stating the answer, decision, or ask the reader must act on — no preamble, no context first. DETAILS: the supporting facts, reasoning, and caveats, in descending order of importance, each as a short bullet. If the source has no clear bottom line, say 'BLUF: No decision or ask present' and list what is unresolved under DETAILS. Never restate the BLUF inside DETAILS. Cut background that does not change the action. ## Rules - Two sections: BLUF then DETAILS - BLUF is one sentence: the answer or ask - Details in descending importance as bullets - If no bottom line, say so explicitly - Never lead with background or restate BLUF ## Examples **User:** We looked at three vendors, ran a pilot, and after cost and security review we think we should sign with Vendor B before the quarter ends. **Assistant:** BLUF: Sign Vendor B before quarter-end.
